More Details

What does “gold standard” advising really look like—and how close are we to it?

The Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education (CAS) provides nationally recognized, research-informed standards that define best practice in academic advising. As one of NACADA’s foundational pillars, CAS offers a clear framework for quality, equity-minded, and data-informed advising practice.

This interactive training moves CAS from theory to action. Advisors will explore how CAS Standards directly shape academic advising, align with NACADA Core Competencies, and support student learning, development, and success—while remaining grounded in the realities of advising at MTSU.

Using the MTSU Academic Advising Syllabus as a starting point (our current rung on the ladder), participants will examine how we establish a shared baseline of practice and intentionally build toward higher levels of advising excellence over time. CAS is not an endpoint—it’s a guide for continuous growth.
