More Details

Advisors know that strong relationships are foundational to student success—but building those relationships often requires flexibility, creativity, and a willingness to meet students where they are. Meeting Students Where They Are is an AMP Works training designed to help advisors expand their relationship-building toolkit through Open Advising and visibility-based practices.

This interactive session will explore how physical presence, informal engagement, and accessible advising models can help advisors connect with students who may not otherwise seek support. Participants will discuss what it means to meet students where they are—both developmentally and physically—and how Open Advising can serve as a proactive approach to relationship-building rather than a reactive service model.

Advisors will leave the session with practical strategies they can apply immediately, along with a clearer understanding of how Open Advising supports inclusive practice, trust-building, and student engagement. This training emphasizes realistic, scalable approaches that recognize advisors’ workloads while centering meaningful connection as a core advising outcome.
