Advisor Mastery Program (AMP) Workshops

These workshops will focus primarily on advisor skill-building and knowledge-building. Potential topics include:

  • Technical/Software/Administrative skills (Excel, TEAMS, ARGOS, reading high school transcripts, etc.)
  • Advising approaches and best practices
  • Legal/Ethical issues in advising
  • Inclusive Excellence 

Workshops will be offered twice a month, and will generally be worth 1 point (unless otherwise stated). Workshops will vary in terms of being offered in-person or via zoom.

Description: Weren't able to make it to the NACADA Annual Conference this year? No problem — we’re bringing the experience to you! AMP will be streaming selected virtual conference sessions right here on campus. This is a great opportunity to engage with the latest ideas and best practices in academic advising, connect with colleagues, and gain professional development — all without leaving MTSU! Drop in, watch sessions that interest you, and join in on the conversations.  

From 9 to 11:30 am, we’ll be watching:

  • C015: Mastering Difficult Conversations with Students: Balancing Support with Accountability
  • C191: Relationship Building 101: How to Create and Sustain Trust and Connections with Advisees
  • C218: "I Hate When Students Do That!" The Dynamics of Hate in Academic Advising
  • C225: The Personal vs. Professional Equation: Navigating Boundaries in Academic Advising
  • C296: Do This, Don't Do That! Communication Guidelines for Advisors

Then, from 11:30 to 12:30 pm, we’ll watch the 60-minute panel, “The State of Advising: An In-Depth Discussion with Past and Present NACADA Executive Directors.”

As the NACADA organization draws closer to their 50 year anniversary in 2029, uncertainty in the academic advising field still looms. What lessons have higher education professionals from around the globe learned about themselves and their students? What new policies and practices are on the horizon? What does the future of advising hold for the advising profession, especially with declining enrollment trends and technological advancements? Where does NACADA fit into all of this? Join past and current NACADA Executive Directors to share their collective knowledge and experiences to get the unsaid said on strategies we should be implementing to help students and you, the advising professional.
