NACADA Core Competencie(s): Conceptual, Information, Relational

Points: 1 per every 2 hours attended

Location: SU 224

Option 1 - Maximize Operations: Data-Driven Strategies to Optimize Student Appointments & Advisor Availability - In an era where student needs are evolving and institutional resources are often stretched thin, optimizing advising operations has become more critical than ever. This session will delve into data-driven strategies that have significantly reduced no-show appointments, enhanced advisor availability, and met peak advising demands more effectively. By leveraging process improvement techniques and targeted data collection, we have 'moved the needle' in our advising operations, ensuring a more efficient and student-centered approach. Attendees will walk away with actionable insights and recommendations as to how to implement similar strategies within their own departments, ultimately improving both student satisfaction and advisor workload management.

If we decide on an Option 2 - ADHD Learners: Advising Dynamic, Hyper-Focused, and Daring Leaders - With increasing counseling appointments and observable evidence of executive function struggles-decrease in attendance, missing advising appointments, not turning in assignments---advisors must recognize emerging patterns, such as the 'fight or flight' response, that often leads to poor academic habits. Reinforced by student development theory, this session demonstrates how advisors can foster self-empowerment and guide students away from 'fight or flight' into the daring, creative minds they truly are. This session will affirm that despite not being mental health professionals, advisors play a pivotal role in making timely referrals for counseling, guided reflection, and connection to partner offices that offer academic accommodations.
