NACADA Core Competencie(s): Conceptual, Information, Relational

Points: 1 per every 2 hours attended

Location: SU 224

Option 1 - Managing Your Peace: Making the Shift from Servant Leadership - Servant leadership is commonly practiced and embraced in advising communities and within higher education. Perhaps it is time for a new, and arguably, more applicable approach for advising administrators to better manage their peace in the current climate of competing priorities and stakeholder desire for high returns on investment. This session is designed to provide an understanding of the adaptable leadership model, contrasting it with servant leadership, by demonstrating its use for effective leadership and well-being. Participants will be better informed on how to integrate adaptable leadership strategies into their professional practices, fostering more responsive and supportive advising environments through the use of an informative presentation with interactive discussions and real-world applications.

If we decide for an Option 2 - The Power of Your Purpose in Action: "Why"-Focused Advising - What is your purpose in life? Have you thought deeply about it? Does it matter? Does it impact your work in academic advising? Purpose in life has been both an individual pursuit and a line of research for individuals and scholars for decades. Research on purpose in life has grown substantially and has revealed that individuals who have a clear sense of their purpose exhibit a variety of positive life characteristics both personally and professionally. This presentation reveals the findings of a study that explored how the process of bringing awareness to an individual's purpose in life inspired a deeper level of self-understanding, informed future professional goals, and enhanced the focus on the advising relationship with students
