Biography
Dr. Meeks' extensive career began in cardiac critical care. After several years, he accepted a nursing supervision position at a major downtown Nashville hospital. Dr. Meeks was then promoted to the original Director of Critical Care and Cath Lab Services at StoneCrest Medical Center when it opened in 2003.
Over the years, Dr. Meeks has held several other high-level positions in nursing administration and leadership, including Associate Chief Nursing Officer, Vice President, Clinical Operations, Vice President, Quality Risk Management & Clinical Education, and finally Ethics and Compliance Officer. In his role as Ethics and Compliance Officer, Dr. Meeks worked with TriStar Hospital leaders to educate medical and nursing staff and to report on fiscal, contractual, and ethical compliance to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. Dr. Meeks retired from Hospital Corporation of America in May of 2010. Between 2010 and January 2012, he completed the majority of his doctoral coursework. He accepted a faculty position in the School of Nursing at MTSU in January 2012 and completed his doctoral degree in 2013. At the time of his graduation, Dr. Meeks was one of only 50 students who completed the University of Alabama doctoral collaborative program (University of Alabama, University of Alabama in Birmingham, and University of Alabama in Huntsville). His diploma holds the names of all three universities and university official signatures from each university.
Dr. Meeks has taught a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses at MTSU and through the TN eCampus collaborative. Undergraduate courses taught include Health Assessment, Nursing Leadership, Pharmacology, Introduction to Nursing Clinical, Critical Care Clinical, and Caring for Adult Clients II. Currently, Dr. Meeks teaches graduate courses including Advanced Health Assessment and Lab, and Advanced Pathophysiology.
Dr. Meeks is completing a post-master's certificate in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner at the University of North Alabama and is preparing to sit for national certification as a PMHNP in 2027. Dr. Meeks is currently working with a preceptor at an outpatient mental health clinic in southeast Tennessee, seeing patients as a nurse practitioner student.
