I received my Ph.D. in religion from Syracuse University. I received my Ph.D. in religion from Syracuse University. My area of specialization is religion, media, and culture with attention to mass media and the diffuse influence of U.S. Protestant Fundamentalism on media, culture, business, and politics during the early 20th century. I am also interested in the efforts of Indigenous nations and peoples to oppose the usage of a 15th-century papal bull, the Doctrine of Discovery, to justify U.S. property laws that dispossess the lands of Indigenous nations and communities (upheld by the Supreme Court as recently as 2005 in Sherrill v. Oneida. Both projects allow me to anchor my work within the sub-disciplines of critical theories of religion and American religious history with careful attention to discourses of identity and power. Professionally, I work as the International Research Associate and Operations Manager at the American Indian Law Alliance (AILA).

When I am not doing research or teaching, you can find me playing tabletop games. I am a huge science fiction and superhero geek who enjoys playing Dungeons and Dragons on weekends with my friends. My favorite sports to watch are field and box lacrosse. Presently, I live in Nashville, and I am learning to love hockey and soccer as well.
